Data Backups

Cloud Storage

We have a group Dropbox account (see  Group Accounts ) that should be used for backing up research-related data.

TigerData

Princeton is developing a new data and storage management platform called  TigerData  that will likely become our go-to venue for long-term, archival data storage (especially for large amounts of data).

Software

Data on supercomputers and all research data (e.g. calculation results, presentations, manuscripts) should be backed up on our group Dropbox account. To do so in an automated and scheduled fashion, you should install  Syncovery  on your local machine. Syncovery can also SSH into the supercomputers to back up data to the cloud. Backups should be run on a weekly basis at least. For the sake of storage, make sure to exclude certain large filetypes that you do not need to backup (e.g. scratch files).
All members of the group should be using Syncovery or a similar program to backup raw and processed research data on a regular, scheduled basis without exception.
